RuPaul's Drag Race Holland Season 2 - Episode 4

Before we jump into this remember there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!

Episode 4 of Drag Race is here and boy oh boy was it a messy one so lets jump right in.

With the new day in the werkroom the Queens compare badges before Fred walks in to give them their challenges for the week. For the mini challenge the Queens are assigned by favourite… the reading challenge! Fred doesn’t judge alone and brings in assistance from Dusty Gersanowitz who I didn't know but all the Queens seemed thrilled. I didn’t doubt the Holland Queens ability to read at all, I mean these b*tches never take the glasses off and are reading each other for filth all the time! Although the Queens had brilliant reads it was My Little Puny who won the challenge for me and Fred and Dusty agreed.

For the main challenge this week the Queens are given the Ru-sical which I was so excited about as last time the season 1 Queens killed it! My Little Puny is put in charge of rolls and after all the Queens bid for what role they would like My Little Puny basically does the opposite and assigns the roles very randomly in our opinion.

During rehearsals some of the Queens are a little miffed if you like at the role they were assigned and if I’m honest I would be too. Some of the roles weren't the best… I get it shouldn’t matter what role you are given you should just be able to own it. But like all Drag Race acting challenges I feel there is always going to be Queens who are in the bottom or only just safe due to the role. For me this is unfair and it’s hard to judge the Queens. Either way nothing they can do now but own it.

The Rusical was based on Cinderella but of course retitled CindeRuella for Drag Race. Now the Rusical was… interesting. I felt it was a massive flop but not because of the Queens. I blame production. I’m not sure who chose to hire the singers for the Queens but the voices were so deep and low and it just really didn’t suit or work with how the Queens were having to present. It was a major distraction and I know its hard as I’m reading subtitles and trying to watch the Queens but honestly I was so disconnected and bored which I wasn’t during Season 1 (where I to had to watch and read subtitles). My favourite performance was probably Tabitha but she already suited that type of role so maybe the one that shone the most was actually Ivy-Elyse Monroe. She was put into a wheelchair for the whole performance but I saw her really going for it! I saw her over the top gestures and I was drawn to her. My weakest was… maybe Vivaldi and the Countess, they just faded a little more than the others. But they weren’t terrible at all which makes this one so hard.

With the Rusical over, (thank god) we then have a runway of Statement on the runway. I really liked this category and some of the Queens have been doing this type of idea anyway without this theme. I do think its important to remember that yes Drag is fun but these Queens now have such a platform and I think they should be pushing for change! Either way we had a variety of choices on the runway and seems I didn’t go into much detail with the Rusical I will here for the runways.

First put was Tabitha with body shaming. The outfit was so slick and beautiful, it really suited Tabitha’s body shape and the simplicity of it was just… it was perfection for me! Maybe done a few times before but it really did work so well and really brought that message of a statement on the runway home. You knew what it was about without needing an explanation.

Next way Ivy Elyse Monroe did a clever reveal to help push her message for Stop Asian Hate. Although once explained I did love the concept and the look, I must admit I didn’t get it was the corona virus at first. Either way great message.

My Little Puny chose Addition. Now, she looked incredible! Don’t get me wrong and I guess it could be addiction to anything but I really did think it was for drugs. Then when she later on the runway explained it was drinking addiction and chose this due to loosing her Dad to that addiction I was touched, but I think the message didn’t hit with the look. Still incredible Drag and what a look!

The Countess with breaking boundaries was almost a oops I forgot to create anything for this category… I have this gorgeous outfit let me just make something extra to sell the look. Sadly it didn’t hit home for me and without that box afterwards it was just a general look. This really upset me as well as the Countess has been BRINGING the looks. I guess we can let a little miss go every now and then.

Vivaldi chose deforestation… again like My Little Puny, incredible Drag, really top level but sadly it didn’t push a message to me. White and red doesn’t say forest to me… For this reason it was a miss for me.

Keta Minaj did mental illness and also had a reveal, going from a straight jacket to a magical colourful look once the restraints were removed. I did really like this message of showing how sometimes mental illness puts people in a box and people with mental illnesses can still produce magical works of art and be beautiful people. My only negative was the make up and hair which even when the restraints were removed made it look like she was still crazy if that makes sense. So I felt this wasn’t very sensitive to the topic she chose.

Vanessa chose Trans Pride and her look started a little like Tabitha’s and had her hiding away from the hatful words, however, once the look was stripped she wore a breathtaking gown in the pride flag print. Now this is where I think this works, because even after she was still making a statement, this is where Ivy and the Countess fell, as once revealed their messages didn't say anything to me.

Looks done the judges gave their critics and I felt they were really harsh to a few of them but I did agree with some of them. My bottoms of the week, probably Vivaldi and The Countess for lack of presence in the Rusical and then for missing the mark on the main stage. My top for both performance and runway probably Tabitha. Fred however chooses differently and gives the win to My Little Puny and puts Ivy and the Countess in the bottom. I really disagreed with Ivy being in the bottom this week! It was 100% not her time but I guess the producers want to keep the love interest storyline alive with the Countess and Vivaldi.

The Queens get an awful song to perform to but I did think although a little more messy that Ivy won, she made the song fit her best and sadly for me (even as a huge fan of) the Countess just walked around the stage like it was a runway rather than a lip sync. Fred not ready to send home The Countess basically breaks the rules and says he’s doing it on everything so far in the competition and saves the Countess, but gives her a stern warning of basically stop relying on that body!!!

Sadly not a great main challenge but still another killer runway from the Holland Queens. I can’t wait to see what next week brings!
