Exclusive with Lady Morgana

Lady Morgana, welcome to Spill the Tea lovely. Let’s start with, when did you discover that you wanted to do drag?
When I was 14 years  old, I discovered my drag with the help of my drag mother LeyJohn Perez…

What was your first reaction when you got the call to say you had made it onto Drag Race Philippines?
I was SCREAMING at that time, it was so exciting to finally be in the show and to share my drag with the whole world. I was able to represent Mindanao to the whole world.

With over 15 years of experience did you feel well prepared going into the competition?
I really took the time to become physically and mentally prepared, however my looks were not expensive (I tried to make some of them as best I could). Some of my other looks are made by the best designers in Mindanao. People like Mark Joseph Sayad from Metro Davao, Jay Cabatingan in South Cotabato, Manay Kenita, LeyJohn Perez, Jeff Avenido.

Was the competition like you expected or totally different?
I did not expect that it would be totally different. It was very challenging however I enjoyed myself a lot!

Why do you think the competition got the better of you this week?
I think I remember that during that time in the competition, I was really feeling the pressure. But you know, I really believe that I handled it with grace.

This week you said you felt the judges had already said goodbye before the lip-sync. Do you think you stood a chance having been in the bottom a few times already?
I just went with the flow in that time, it was hard but I was just enjoying every moment.

Let’s not forget losing is the new winning (as RuPaul says), getting on the show is a huge achievement which opens many doors but what do you hope the future holds for you?
Well I hope I just showed the world who Lady Morgana is, to become a drag artist on television – people don’t understand how hard this is. I’m really glad I got to show the whole world who I am. I can be proud of myself for that.

Shout-out time! What queer performer deserves a shout from you and why? - This can be a drag King, Queen or anything in-between or simply a queer artist doing their thing.
Plastique Tiara, Sasha Velour, Jinx Monsoon, Bianca del Rio – these are some of my biggest drag inspirations.

Drag Race Philippines continues every Wednesday, exclusively on the streamer of all things drag, WOW Presents Plus. To subscribe click here.
